Welcome to CinderWho!
You’re probably wondering “what kind of weird name is that?” Well, did you know that Ella is Cinderella’s real name? But in the older versions of the story (vs. the Disney version), her stepmother made her sleep in the kitchen on a bed of ashes—hence the “cinder” part of her name. Since then, the word “Cinderella” has come to mean “one whose attributes were unrecognized.” She spent her days cleaning up after her stepfamily, doing the laundry, cooking, feeding the animals… the list goes on. The only time she seemed to get noticed is when she neglected to do something or did it wrong. Lastly, did you know that the Aarne–Thompson system also classifies Cinderella as “the persecuted heroine”?
Now compare that to your own life. Many of you are full-time career professionals, wives, mothers, housekeeper, cook, nutrition expert, chauffer, cheerleader, interior designer, and so much more—often times with seemingly little appreciation in return. So in the case of CinderWho… the “Who” is YOU! Though I sincerely hope you aren’t sleeping in the kitchen on a bed of ashes. And most certainly I hope you aren’t being persecuted. But know that you ARE a heroine.
This blog will cover a little bit of everything from my own adventures, all with the hope of giving you a place to laugh a little, to be inspired and encouraged, and to get a little “you” time.
