Girl’s Bedroom Design

Recently, Baby R has graduated to Toddler R now that her baby brother has arrived. Not only that, but she has moved into her new “big girl’s room” to make room for Baby G to take over her old nursery (see how we transformed her nursery into his nursery!).

I found this task to be exciting! It was another chance to live vicariously through my daughter and create a space I would have loved myself as a child. You know, I have to get all this creative genius out of me before she starts picking her own sense of style.

We had a fresh slate with her room, which included a fresh coat of paint and brand new carpet. Now for the fun design part…

It always takes me a bit to get going on a theme/design. I generally start with the bedding set (as I did with both nurseries) and then build around that. I knew I wanted a pink/grey color scheme this time around, but not necessarily fluffy and frilly. Eventually, I found this bedding set from Bed Bath and Beyond that would do the job perfectly. Between one of their 20% coupons and a gift card, I didn’t pay much for it at all!

With the theme taking shape, it was time to select the furniture that would complement. We decided white furniture would really pop against the gray walls and carpet. In addition, we didn’t want to spend a lot of money because we figured a toddler and elementary schooler would be rough on the furniture. So we opted for the Mainstays collection from Walmart. Between the storage bed (so we didn’t have to worry about cleaning under the bed!), the 5-drawer dresser and the shelves/cube organizer, we spent less than $700. We also learned that the Mainstay storage cubes were more pricey than we wanted (we’re cheapskates, what can I say?). So we found pink ones on Amazon that fit the bill (a 6 pack for only $18).

With the basic items set up, it was time to finish the details with plenty of “pops” of pink throughout.

Most of the items, we found on Amazon. These pink, room darkening curtains are SO SOFT! Seriously pleased with that purchase.

Toddler R has collected a bazillion stuffed animals. To help rein in the clutter some, we purchased this pink storage hammock, again adding some more pink to the room.

Smaller details included a pink stepping stool so she could climb into bed on her own. In addition, we purchased a pink and grey fan to add some white noise. We rounded out the room with necessities in both white and pink. Like this white hamper and waste basket. We reused the mirror she had used in her nursery and swapped out the ribbon to match the new décor. Finally, a pink changing pad to contrast the white dresser, since Toddler R isn’t quite potty trained yet.

Finally, we used the same Etsy artist as we did in Baby G’s room to make a custom script decal.

This room is one of my favorite projects to date. I can’t wait to continue the interior design throughout the remainder of the house once renovations are complete!
